opinion on a EDELSTAAL MACHINEX LATHE?
I'm in college and I want to get a lathe, but money is very limited.. I can get an Edelstaal Machinex 5 lathe in like new condition for less than 200 bucks, which is pushing the budget to begin with. I know these lathes are back from the 70's-80's and I found a little bit of info on them, but I wanted to see if anybody has personal experience with this lathe?? I know it's small, but I'm talking about as far as accuracy and quality goes? They look very similar to the Taig lathe, and I know everybody loves those little things. Soo... does anybody have one of these Machinex 5 lathes??

I barely know much about machining, being the novice that i am but what I can tell you is that if you are making money off of it, it should be a priceless machine. Other than that, it is new so I assume it should run better. I would look for a Hardinge lathe; my boss has been machining since the 1940's and that's his favorite brand for manual lathe machines. He has two of them that are somewhat big, but his were made in the 50's and they run just fine and I enjoy using them. I would look on ebay or other sites for them because idk if hardinge still sells them. Just look for one similar to the size of the Edelstaal Machinex 5 lathe that you are looking at. Personally I would save up to buy a nice machine so you get your pennyworth's instead of wasting $200 on a machine that breaks, but I understand you are in college. If you are familiar with that machine and know how it handle then buy it. Otherwise keep an eye out for a cheap but GOOD one. With several manufacturing businesses and machine shops going bankrupt you can get some great deals on machines.
