Frequently Asked Questions...
Resistance of a heating device?
I have a problem very similar to this on my review sheet, but since this isn't even a circuits class all of my materials are pretty much worthless
A copper wire will supply current to a 2,500 W electric space heater. The supply is 110 V, 60 HZ. What is the resistance of the heating device?
Answer:
P = E²/R
2500 = 110²/R
R = 12100/2500 = 4.8 ohms.
If it is actually a 120 volt heater, then
R = 14400/2500 = 5.8 ohms
