Admired And Recreated Through The Years - Art Nouveau Graphic Design
Design, pattern and shape were all essential design elements used by graphic illustrators towards the end of the 1800s. The man who influenced how graphic designers see a page, and how they use elements of design, died at the young age of 26 years. Artists continue to attempt to copy his highly individualistic interpretation of art nouveau. More expert design information is located at graphic designers india.
Oscar Wilde advocated and patronized an assortment of artistic movements, methods and styles. He deeply regarded the practice of art as an end unto itself. He felt that assessing art by ethical or standards was a misguided notion. He quickly became a polemical and substantial literary presence and remained so during his brief life. Oscar Wilde opted to create drawings to illustrate a tale, which was exotic, kinky, and wicked, especially for the time period. With the use of sinister eroticism, some elegant sweeping lines and patterns, this young illustrator created clever distortions in his illustrations of this story.
The sophisticated juxtaposition of black and white space is a common theme in his work. He used wide borders and planes or shadows which contrasted with the delicate patterns etched upon a white surface. His page was commonly unbalanced and the artistic movement was displayed with sweeping, continuous and undulating curves. The characters depicted in his art hold intricate objects presented in great detail, but are just simple outlines themselves. The intricate and the plain combine in these pieces to communicate a strength that compels the eye to explore its every detail.
Japanese art, as well a a revival in medieval art forms and early Renaissance work inspired designers at the end of the 19th century. Many artists in both the United States and Europe have imitated the work of this young illustrator, and he became quite well-known as a direct result of his illustrations appearing in quite a few famous publications. Framed prints and posters are available today to be framed and displayed. Many of these prints and posters are copies and reproductions of Wilde's distinctive pieces. By the end of the 1800's, such poster art had gradually changed from a commercial advertising form into a diverse art form all its own. Though the printing of books and their illustrations were still largely done in black and white, posters were often printed in bright colors. Artists learned and developed their talent at catching the public's eye with large, bright and impressive graphic works. Any words written to give information about an event or product were kept to a minimum. Artists understood that attracting the attention of someone required simplicity, which was accomplished by flat, simple shapes and bold colors. He used lines that were fractured and suggestive much like the Impressionist artists. It is these qualities that lead to this man's work being hailed as the pioneer of the art nouveau design. The classic art nouveau posters are credited to this man's work.
Other illustrators furthered their work, adding black outlines and spaces enclosed by flowing contours that characterize the proper art nouveau poster. One artist created work which is noted for graceful, young girls with long hair and draped clothing, spreading out into interesting, beautiful forms. Another of the well known and affluent art nouveau poster designer's works were always one elegant, narrow strip, usually depicting a full length female figure. There are a variety of sources these complicated and intricate patterns draw from, including Hebrew lettering as well as fold art, Moorish and Arab decoration, Japanese wood cuts, Byzantine mosaics, and Celtic motifs.
In the reprints and books highlighting their work, you will find much information on the turn of the century graphic design artists. Late 19th century and early 20th century poster art is available from dealers who specialize in it. Their booths can be found at collectibles shops and large international style antique shows. An original work in good condition will generally set you back hundreds or thousands of dollars.

Frequently Asked Questions...
What color wall paint works best with cherry hardwood floors and black/brown decor?
we are pretty bare- just a few art pieces that are a dark brown in hues. we have leather black furniture and some dark brown book shelves- no rugs or pillows bright white window frames and.. any suggestion on accent colors would be awesome. This is for our living room.
Answer:
In our last home, I had the entire interior painted in three shades of sage. Everything was cherry wood with black granite countertops in the kitchen and black, soft yellows, purples and green accents throughout. The sages really made everything pop. Going to do the same in our new home. The sage colors I chose were through the Martha Stewart Collection for Sherwin Williams.
