GG&G Accucam Eotech And Aimpoint Mounts
The GG&G range of weapon accessories have won a great following among sports shooters and the military alike. The jewel in the crown of the GG&G range is their Accucam series of adjustable, QD mounts for optical sights.
The Eotech range of holographic weapon sights has won a niche for itself with armed forces around the World. Whilst, in the US, they have only been type classified by SOCOM, they have been extremely popular as a unit purchase by formations of up to divisional size and are an extremely popular private purchase with US servicemen and women serving in the Global War on Terror. The A.R.M.S. quick release system adopted by Eotech for some of their models is regarded by some as less than rock solid and lacking in repeat zero capability. GG&G designed a solution for Eotech 511, 512, 551 and 552 HWS in the form of their GG&G Accucam Eotech mount. All the Accucam mounts are machined from 6061 T-6 aluminium which is Type III anodized black and equipped with a lever of 4140 steel with a phosphated finish which matches the body of the mount. The Accucam lever adjusts to any MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny or Weaver rail - even an out of spec. or worn one. The lever is easily operated with gloves but is hard to snag on equipment or clothing. This is the only QD system available for the Eotech which adds no height and does not interfere with co-witnessing. The whole system weighs three ounces and can be fitted to the Eotech in less than ten minutes with the tool and fixings supplied. This is a very easy system to use. In use zero repeat is often within 0.5 MoA. The company also offers a shroud and flip up lens covers for the Eotech.
Two years ago the US Army opted to replace their CompM2s with CompM4s sights which retained the designation M68. Over half a million of these very tough sights were purchased. The CompM4s is equipped with an integral non-QD Picatinny mount. This is a good system, but some users wanted QD and/or the facility to mount the 3XMag magnifier or PVS-14 NVS. The Accucam CompM4 mount mount fits both CompM4 and CompM4s sights and enables you to rapidly detach the red dot sight and switch to your back-up sights. Two versions are available. The standard version, as you would expect, is a conventional mount whilst the cantilever puts the sight two inches forward. The Aimpoint is secured to the mount via two large allen head bolts using the sights factory screw holes. Again everything needed is supplied.
The US Army has had to react to the nature of combat in Afghanistan by doing everything possible to lighten equipment. As a result they are combat testing the Aimpoint Micro T-1 which is seven ounces lighter than the CompM4s. The Micro T-1 was not designed as a military sight and, whilst rugged, is perhaps less so than the Comp series. GG&G decided to make a mount that would offer a quick detach capability for the Micro T-1 whilst protecting it as far as possible. The Accucam Aimpoint T-1 mount bolts to the Micro T-1 (or H-1) with three 3mm bolts, tensioned with the supplied wrench. The objective lens is protected by an integral flip up lens cap and the rear by a matching detachable flip-up lens cap. This patented mount is the only one on the market that includes this feature. Again, this sight adapts to out of spec or worn rails. The mount positions the sight so that the red dot sits on top of GG&G A3 flip up iron foresight, enabling co-witnessing. This mount enables a repeat zero that is within the grouping capabilities of 95% of AR-15 series weapons with match ammunition. The Accucam mount has been contoured and drilled with lightening holes to make it as light at possible whilst retaining immense strength.
